t 18 I lived a pretty normal Northern Irish lifestyle. I went to school, worked 20 hours a week in retail, went out on the weekends, did my A levels and got in to an okay University. However, all of that became very old very quickly. My lifestyle did not represent who I was.
I loved the people I worked with but didn’t enjoy minimum minimum wage
I didn’t even drink yet I spent my Saturday nights surrounded by the pretentious club world.
All of it just felt awfully unfulfilling.
My life changed forever on July 5th 2014 when I took everything in to my own hands. My great friend Tony phoned me in the middle of the night and asked if I wanted to go sailing at 6am. Obviously I agreed and headed to bed for a few hours sleep.
In the morning we sailed around Strangford Lough enjoying the passing islands, jellyfish and cold air coming off the water. As soon as we returned to land I marched in to my work and handed in my letter of resignation. No more minimum wage!
Then I booked a one way flight to Munich, Germany.
This was the beginning of The Adventures of Bryan.
This blog serves as a reminder to myself of that original moment. The moment that changed everything. I had an inkling all those years ago that I was embarking on something big, something that would change my life forever. However, I could not have predicted the places I was going to see, the people I would meet and the things I would come to do. I do know one thing though: I have that inkling again. I am about to embark on an even bigger adventure and want to record it here on this blog.
I don’t know who you are or why you are reading this, but I hope you enjoy the outlandish stories I have to tell and I hope that someone out there can take a small piece of inspiration out of this.
